India is struggling to keep its rising population under check. But the Kerala Catholic Bishops Council would support families that have more children in a bid to counter a decline in the Christian population. The programme would be implemented in all Catholic dioceses in the state. While the Muslim population is growing, the Christian population is on the decline. Both the Christian and Muslim population in the state is well above the national average

The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat based at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, is an international not for profit organization sponsored by architecture, engineering, planning, development and construction professionals it determines the officially accepted heights of buildings.

Pakistan summoned the Afghan ambassador to Islamabad, Anwar Anwarzai, to the foreign office “and a strong protest was lodged over President Karzai’s statement. Karzai said that Afghanistan would be justified to attack Taliban insurgents on the Pakistan soil saying his country had a right to do so in self-defence. Hundreds of Afghan tribesmen rallied on their side of the porous 1,500-mile (2,500-kilometre) frontier to voice their support for Karzai’s tough stance. Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi described Karzai’s comments as “irresponsible”.

About a dozen spectators who were shouting pro-Pakistan slogans at a soccer match were detained in Kashmir. They were trying to incite other 5,000 people who had come to watch final of the soccer championship. They shouted “we want freedom, long live Pakistan” before police led them away. Police officers revealed this information on conditio of anonymity.

Media houses decided not to bring out Monday’s issue to protest against threats from militants. While militants of a particular outfit wanted the publication of a statement issued by them, others belonging to a different faction threatened dailies with dire consequences if the said statement was published.
The Journalists’ Union (AMWJU), which discussed the issue in the past two days, appealed to the militants not to interrupt in the functioning of the dailies in the state.

Pakistan-born Tarek Fateh has released a book Chasing a Mirage: The Tragic Illusion of an Islamic State. He argues that Muslims have been force-fed lies about their history for over a millennium – not by Islam’s enemies, but by its imams. Through the book Fateh wants Muslims to understand that their future lies in “models that are based in India, South Africa and Canada. He faces death threats against him because of his opinion.

Aurangzeb, Emperor Shah Jahan’s sixth son, was born on 24th October 1618 at Dohad in Madhya Pradesh, and wrested India’s crown from his father before the end of June 1658, after defeating his brother Prince Dara Shukoh’s armies, first at Dharmat near Ujjain (15th April 1568) and the second, led by Dara himself, at Samugarh on 29th May 1658. The War of Succession to the richest throne in the world was practically over with this victory, and Aurangzeb secured his position by making Murad, his brother and accomplice in his impetuous pursuit for power, his prisoner, by treachery, on 25th June. He had already made his old father Emperor Shah Jahan a prisoner in the Agra Fort (8th June 1658).

Indian Meteorological Department has announced to launch a 24-hour television channel to provide weather updates. It has predicted that this year monsoon will hit 2 weeks ahead of the normal schedule.
